Buju Banton – Country For Sale

It’s been a tough time trying to regain a footing on the music scene after his incarceration for 8 years, but Jamaican reggae legend Buju Banton is making a steady climb back up the mountain from where he apparently fell.

And it’s incredibly pleasant watching his rise once again to the height he almost colonized once upon a time. Buju Banton has just released a new song titled “Country for Sale,” his very first in a longish while. And oh, it is a song of global appeal, with a powerful message which, although supposedly addressed to Jamaica, should find its way to the mail pouches of several countries, especially in Africa.

Berner - Still Alive Ft. Wiz Khalifa, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, G-Eazy & Chevy Woods

I was going to say Nigeria specifically, but it would have been limiting. In “Country For Sale,” Buju Banton decries not only the cupidity of corporations and individuals who would do anything for money even at a ghastly costs to nature and to the ecosystem.

Regarded as a man of the people, Buju Banton, who has long earned legend status, is the mastermind of songs like “Wanna Be Loved,” “Givee I Strength,” “A Little More Time,” “Not an Easy Road” and “’Till I’M Laid to Rest,” among others.
