IGOR is introduced with a message from Tyler stating “IGOR. This is not bastard. This is not goblin. This is not wolf. This is not cherry bomb. This is not flower boy. This is IGOR.” The album has two distinct album covers.
With Flower Boy showing such a creative transformation, we’re glad to see that IGOR follows up on that progress.
Tyler makes a Call Me By Your Name reference on On “I Think”: “And I wish you would call me by your name ’cause I’m sorry.” Tyler earlier mentioned Timothée Chalamet on “OKRA.”
Even though it’s been almost two years since he released the critically acclaimed “Flower Boy” album, Prior to releasing IGOR, Tyler has kept himself occupied. He was among the team that curated the yearly Camp Flog Gnaw festival which is schedule to take place again this coming November at Dodger Stadium, he’s similarly teamed up with Danny Elfman on song from last year’s Grinch reboot, dropped some exceptional freestyles, and appeared by dropping verses on other people’s records.
Last year, Tyler released some singles and some of them happens to appear on “IGOR,” one of the singles released was “OKRA.” He similarly shared the “Music Inspired” EP by Illumination & Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch.
While he sticks to his origins of unconventionality and peculiarity, the multi-talented artist has continued an artistic exploration. experimenting more with synthesizers with less of his singing voice, Tyler often get lyrical ideas from his immediate environment. IGOR is very groovy and offers a lot of enjoyable Neo-Soul rhythms.
