Kesha – Rich, White, Straight Men

There is a new song from rapper, Kesha and it is fiercely political as it touches on the LGBTQ, the educational system, wage inequality, the border wall and a lot of other issues. The song, titled “Rich, White, Straight Men” is an affirmation song kind of and Kesha did justice to it.

If the cover art of the song that had Kesha show the middle finger is not indication enough about what the song will do, the opening lines quickly puts you in that “oh, hell” mode as you steel yourself for what’s to come. On the educational and health sector, Kesha threw a few jabs when she sang: “You could ride a unicorn to school/And if you fall off you’d have healthcare.”

She also went further and said: “Twinkle, twinkle little star/How I wish the world was different/Where who you love and who you are/Was nobody’s fucking business” which is a response to the hate the LGBTQ faces in the country and around the world.

The new song, bold and daring as it is is Kesha‘s way of showing what the world could be like if there were no judgmental people and ‘rich, white, straight men’ running the world.

Speaking about the motivation for the song and what she hoped it would achieve, Kesha later wrote online that: “I don’t know where it’s going to go or what it’s going to be on. I don’t want it to just sit on my computer.” To listen to the song, stream and share your comments.
